Abstract:An improved philosophy of top level analysis is proposed fortotal site energy integration retrofit. It is shown that steam saving or more generating from processes creates a surplus of steam in the total site. Paths for a more efficient use of this surplus steam to generate more power are identified with the help of a path-analysis, in which the difference of electricity power generating turbines and process turbines is taken into account. The improved approach not only provides powerful insights into the utility system economics, but also is a useful tool for evaluation of steam saving, steam generating, and steam switching projects under the condition of fixed configuration of utility network. Furthermore, it rules out uneconomic options, and reduces the time and effort for data extraction for project identification. A practical example of total site utility retrofit shows that the improved path-analysis is effective.
