Abstract:A series of polyoxyethylene azo disperse dye and their intermediates have been analyzed. Their structure and colour properties were studied with mass spectrometry (MS), 1H-nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and ultraviolet/visible (UV/VIS) spectra. MS spectra revealed that the ethoxylated azo dyes were a mixture of compounds with similar body structure but differ in polyoxyethene chain length. From the results of MS spectra, the degree of ethoxylation and distribution of dyes could be seen clearly. The maximum absorption wavelengths (   max) provided very little effect as the average EO number increases.
