Abstract:This paper has examined a new measure of Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM) in freezing process of a suspended droplet based on fuzzy mathematics which overcomes the difficulties found in other measures. A main purpose is to establish a new numerical model to simulate the freezing process of a suspended droplet. A concept of the volume fraction of phase has been introduced. A volume distribution of each phase in the phase change process has been tracked by solving a governing equation of the volume fraction of phase. In the new method, a particle distribution function of the transfer step in flowing evolution process and a flow viscosity are modified by using the volume fraction of solid phase. The accuracy of this method has been validated by simulating several classical models. An improved LBM based on the enthalpy method with phase change can be well described the non-isothermal phase change process and consider the influence of latent heat on the temperature field. The comparative results show that the new numerical model is able to predict the temperature transition and the freezing time of a suspended droplet. ? 2015 The Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers.
