Investigation on residual stress of high chromium alloy in mechanical process based on molecular dynamics

Abstract:Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations were used to simulate nano-grinding process and tensile test of the high-chromium alloy. Combining the high-chromium alloy MD stretching results with the Swadener model I, the residual surface stress of the high-chromium alloy after grinding was calculated. First, the nano-stretching simulation of high-chromium alloy was performed, and the material properties such as yield stress and tensile modulus were analyzed. Simulation results show that the yield stress of the high-chromium alloy is 4.52GPa and the tensile modulus is 170.56GPa by the tensile simulation. The atoms in the stretching zone deviated from the lattice points and the shear band gradually formed when was 0.025. The shear band and the stretching direction is 45.1  . The high chromium alloy fractured when was 0.6. The stacking faults of the high chromium alloy increased in the stretching zone with the increase of the tensile speed, which results in a greater yield stress. The theoretical formula of the Swadener I model was used to calculate the residual stress on the high chromium alloy surface.
