Abstract:Ni, Fe and NiFe nanoalloys supported on activated carbons (AC) with high hydrogenation activity, have been synthesized by using a facile one-step route with coal as the carbon source. This method enables Ni2+ and Fe3+ ions to be reduced and loaded at the AC simultaneously, resulting in the composites with good stability. The as-synthesized green catalysts, including Ni/AC, Fe/AC and NiFe/AC, show excellent catalytic performance in reducing 4-nitrophenol (4-NP). Among them, the bimetal loaded catalyst NiFe/ AC exhibits the highest catalytic activity. Moreover, these catalysts can be recovered by using an external magnetic field due to their magnetic properties. After being reused for several cycles, the NiFe/AC still shows good catalytic stability. This synthetic method can be used to produce high performance, low-cost metal/carbon catalysts from coal at a large scale, thus having a great potential for industrial applications.
