Profile

Dr. Yongchen Song is professor at School of Energy and Power Engineering, Dalian University of Technology (DUT), specializing in the engineering thermophysics. Professor Song has long research experience at Japan, such as conducting research at institutes like Research Institute of Innovative Technology for the Earth (RITE) as research scholar and principle research scholar. Professor Song has served as head for the School of Energy and Power Engineering at DUT, vice dean for the Institute of Science and Technology at DUT, and vice president of DUT. He now serves as head for the Key Laboratory of Ocean Energy Utilization and Energy Conservation of Ministry of Education, for the National Base for the 111 Program at DUT, and for the Natural Gas Hydrate Exploitation Safety and Efficiency Lab in the International Science & Technology Cooperation Program of China. Professor Song is also a standing fellow member at the Chinese Society of Engineering Thermophysics, reviewing committee member for National Natural Science Foundation of China, committee member for the Science & Technology Commission of Ministry of Education China with subbranch of Geographical Science and Resources Environment, fellow of The National Administry Committee on Energy and Power Engineering to Majors in Higher Education under The Ministry of Education.

Motivated by China’s long-term goal for achieving carbon neutrality and urgent need for clean energy development, professor Song’s research centers on fundamental theory, advanced methodology, and key technologies regarding CCUS and natural gas hydrate exploitation. Professor Song has established complete multiphase mass transfer theory for CO2 sequestration. At the meantime, multi new technologies has been proposed by professor Song’s group in facilitating the CO2 injection and enhancing the oil and gas recovery process. Fundamental theory to describe the natural gas dissociation and evolution processes in exploitation has been established, assessment technology and detecting equipment for characterizing the features for natural gas hydrate reservation have been developed. In addition, new technology facilitating the high efficiency exploitation of the natural gas hydrate and the stabilization for the geological structure has been proposed. Such progress in theory, method, and technology have significantly contributed to the natural gas hydrate exploration and exploitation at South China Sea. In recent years, professor Song has lead more than 20 key research projects, such as projects supported by National Key Research and Development Project of China, National Key Technology Research and Development Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, National Program on Key Basic Research Project of China (973 Program), National High Technology Research and Development Program of China (863 Program), National Major Scientific Instruments and Equipment Development Project of National Natural Science Foundation of China, Key Program of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Key Program for International Cooperation of Ministry of Science and Technology of China. The projects lead by professor Song has been granted (all as first author) one 2nd prize of National Natural Science Award of China, one National Award in Teaching Achievement, and 6 ministry or province level grand/1st prizes, and one Gold Medal AFJ Award at International Exhibition of Inventions, Geneva. Professor Song has published more than 490 peer reviewed SCI indexed papers. Among the published papers, 25 are ESI highly cited ones, 79 papers have impact factor higher than 10, 11 papers are cited more than 100 times based on the web of science. The total citation number for professor Song is 10,230, and his H index is 70. In addition, professor Song has been granted 161 patents of China for invention and 7 patents of other countries. Professor Song has authored two books (as first author), and authored 4 translated books. He has been named Highly Cited Researchers by Clarivate, Highly Cited Chinese Researchers by Elsevier, and World's Top 2% Scientists by Stanford University. Professor Song’s lab is one of the leading labs on the CCUS and natural gas hydrate research in the world. Professor Song is a State Council Expert for Special Allowance. He is a member of Education Ministry's New Century Excellent Talents Supporting Plan. Due to his outstanding contributions to the scientific development and education of China, professor Song has been named the Outstanding Communist Party Member of Liaoning province, the Outstanding Teacher of Liaoning province, the Leading Talent Project professor of Liaoning province and the Hundred Talent Project professor of Liaoning province.
