Abstract:In our work, we report a new type of rechargeable Zn(OH)(4)(2) ion battery composed of a carbon black cathode, a zinc anode and an organic electrolyte. This new battery system exhibits good electrochemical properties when ethylene glycol is used as the organic solvent. Through the application for battery testing, the battery can deliver a reversible specific capacity of 70 mAh g(-1) and a cycling stability for up to 700 cycles. The electrochemical reaction mechanism of the carbon black electrode was investigated by X-ray diffraction and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, proving reversible deintercalation-intercalation of Zn(OH)4(2) ions in the carbon black electrode. This work offers a promising strategy for the development of new electrochemical energy storage. (C) 2020 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
