Abstract:In this study, a new kind of fibre reinforced polymer anchor, named BOTDA/R-FBG based FRP anchor, was proposed basing on the optical fibre collinear sensing system (BOTDA/R-FBG), which combined the fibre Bragg grating (FBG) and Brillouin optical time domain analysis/reflectometer (BOTDA/R) sensing techniques. A prototype experiment was set up to test and verify its sensing properties in the laboratory, and its axial strains were separately measured by the BOTDA/R-FBG collinear sensing system and the electronic-resistance strain gauges (ES sensors). The distributions and propagations of the axial strains and the interfacial shear stresses of the FRP anchor were investigated, and the experimental results indicate that the axial strains measured by the BOTDA/R-FBG collinear sensing system agree well with the ES sensors' records, and the derived interfacial shear stresses coincided well with each other. This proposed anchor shows excellent self-sensing functionality and is suitable for the structural behaviour monitoring of the geotechnical anchorage engineering.
