Innovation Team of the Ministry of Education “Bio-inspired Computing Theory and its Applications”

The team was elected as an Innovation Team of the Ministry of Education and an Innovation Team of Liaoning University, both of which received rolling funding support. The Computer Aided Design Laboratory was acknowledged as a National Local Joint Engineering Laboratory by the National Development and Reform Commission in 2015. Two members of the team were elected as Liaoning Climbing Scholars, two were selected as Liaoning Specially Appointed Professors, four were elected as Liaoning Millions of Talents Program 100-level candidates and two were elected as Dalian Science and Technology Stars. The thesis of two master students in the team was awarded the excellent master's thesis of Liaoning Province, and many postgraduates trained by the team won prizes in the national postgraduate mathematical modelling competition, and many students were awarded national scholarships, outstanding thesis of the university and outstanding graduates of the Dalian city and Liaoning Province. The graduates are now working for IBM, Huawei, Haier, Tencent and other outstanding enterprises, and their quality has been well praised by employers.

Profile

In 1994, Prof. Zhang Qiang graduated from Xidian University with a Bachelor degree of Electronic Engineering.

In 1999, he graduated from Xidian University with a Master's degree in Circuits and Systems.

In 2002, he graduated from Xidian University with a Ph.D. degree in Circuits and Systems, and in May 2007, he completed the postdoctoral program from Dalian University of Technology in Mechanical Design and Theory.

Prof. Zhang Qiang is a Distinguished Professor of Changjiang Scholars of the Ministry of Education, a recipient of The National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, a leader of the Innovation Team of the Ministry of Education, a National Outstanding Science and Technology Worker, a member of the National Millions of Talents Program, a recipient of the Special Allowance of the State Council, one of the first Liaoning Outstanding Science and Technology Workers, one of the first Liaoning Distinguished Professors, and Liaoning Climbing Scholar. His main research interests include biocomputing and artificial intelligence, machine behavior and human-machine collaboration, intelligent big data processing, etc. He has published more than 100 papers in IEEE Trans. on Nanobioscience, IEEE Trans. on Automatic Control, Automatica, International Journal of Neural Systems, The Visual Computer, Langmuir, Nanoscale, Journal of Systems and Software, etc. His works have been cited by SCI papers more than 2600 times. The Google H index is 36. Three of his first-author papers were selected as Highly Cited Papers in the ESI, and one of them was selected as a Top Paper in ESI index. In the field of artificial neural networks, he is ranked 11th among the US ESI Top 20 authors out of 31,861 authors from 6,963 research institutions in 118 countries, based on the top 1% of cited frequency of papers.

He was granted 26 invention patents as the 1st inventor. His achievements were awarded the Second Prize of National Natural Science in 2013 (3rd), the Second Prize of National Science and Technology Progress in 2006 (4th), the First Prize of Technical Invention of Liaoning Province in 2012, the First Prize of Natural Science of Ministry of Education in 2010 (both 2nd) and the Second Prize of Technical Invention of Ministry of Education in 2018 (1st). He has completed many projects as the team leader including The National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, a project of the Innovation Team Support Program and Rolling Support Program of the Ministry of Education, a project of the first batch of the National Natural Science Foundation of China for Artificial Intelligence Contingency, 5 projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, 6 projects of the military port 863, 1 project of 863 program, etc. Currently, he is working on a number of projects from CMC Innovation Special zone and the NSFC-Liaoning Province United Foundation.

He has obtained the support from The National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and has been selected as one of the most highly cited scholars in computer science in China by Elsevier for six consecutive years, and has been awarded the "Star of Science and Technology Innovation" in the 12th Five-Year Plan of the Military 863 Program.

He is a recipient of the special allowance of the State Council; a national outstanding science and technology worker; an expert of the evaluation group of the 13th and 14th National Natural Science Foundation of China, Department of Informatics; the first batch of Liaoning Outstanding Science and Technology Workers; the first batch of Liaoning Specially Appointed Professors; the sixth batch of Liaoning Outstanding Experts; a member of the discipline evaluation group of the fifth Liaoning People's Government Degree Committee; the first batch of Dalian Leading Talents; and the 11th Dalian Top Ten Outstanding Youth.

He is the manager of the Information Science and Engineering Laboratory and the Intelligent Information Processing Laboratory, which were acknowledged as the Key Laboratory of Liaoning Provincial Education Department and Liaoning Provincial Key Laboratory in March 2004 and March 2005 respectively. Also, it was acknowledged as the Key Laboratory of Ministry of Education in October 2008, and the Engineering Laboratory of Liaoning Provincial Development and Reform Commission in December 2010, and as the Major Science and Technology Platform Support Program of Liaoning University in 2012, and won the first place among all others in Liaoning province at the end of 2015.
