An efficient method to inversely design air-supply opening size for a commercial airplane

摘要:When inversely designing an indoor environment, the cause-effect relation between the boundary settings and the resulted thermo-flow fields must be established. To accelerate the thermo-flow solution, proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) of thermo-flow fields and interpolation of data samples of the fields can be implemented. However, the POD method suffers from long computational time in obtaining the thermo-flow data samples. To improve solution efficiency, this investigation proposes to obtain a fraction of thermo-flow data samples by interpolation and improve the data accuracy by re-solving the Navier-Stokes equations. To test the proposed method, it was applied to inversely design the size of an air-supply opening on an airplane. By comparing the inversely designed size between the traditional method and the proposed method, the proposed method was found being able to provide similarly accurate results but with 27% less computing expense.
