Abstract: Bromocresol green in basic form was applied as the dispersing agent to noncovalently functionalize multi-walled carbon nanotubes and suspend carbon nanotubes into water. The chemical structure of dye molecule was confirmed by 1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and 1H- 1H COSY. The attachment of dye molecules onto nanotubes was suggested by atomic force microscopy analyses; while the presence of cabon nanotubes in water was evidenced by Raman spectra analyses.
