Abstract:The liquid sloshing impact loads on a large-size wide (1.5m 0. 8m 0.9m) rectangular model tank are investigated experimentally under different combinations of excitation amplitude and frequency. The experiments focus on the 10% limit impact pressure on the model tank when it is partially filled. The statistics of temporal and spatial distributions of the impact load and the effects of excitation amplitude and frequency on sloshing loads are presented. The experimental results suggest that the largest impact loads occur near the still water level in shallow-liquid depths, whereas impulsive pressures mainly occur on the ceiling in non-shallow liquid depth. It is supposed that the maximum 10% limit pressure near free surface occurs at the period lower or higher relative to natural period for shallow-liquid and finite-liquid depths, respectively. Roof impact may be more sensitive to the excitation amplitude and frequency than vertical wall impact. Copyright ? 2012 by the International Society of Offshore and Polar Engineers (ISOPE).
