Abstract:Based on the adolescent social development theory,this paper looks at how peer groups influence in-dividual social development by examining the influence of student societies,an important channel for peer group communication,on undergraduate students'social development,w hich is categorized into moral cognition,po-litical attitude,role adaptation and personality development.The results of our survey and data analysis dem-onstrate that participation in student society activities have a positive impact on students' social development. The frequency and the length of their participation,the kind of societies they join and the interaction they have with other members positively impact the students' social development to varying degrees.To enhance students' social development,proposals are given from the perspective of individual students,supervisors and university student services.
