Abstract:A symmetrical 1-D self-organized discharge pattern is formed in argon near atmospheric pressure. The electrode is shaped as a circular configuration with a wedge-shaped brim and driven by an ac power supply operating at a frequency of 30 kHz. In this circular electrode configuration, each discharge channel of the pattern is accompanied by two neighboring discharge channels on both sides identically, therefore the pattern structure is simplified and its symmetry is advanced. The presented photos exhibit the regularly developing symmetrical patterns with the applied voltage.
