Abstract:An optical fiber curvature and strain sensor based on holey fiber interferometer is experimentally demonstrated. The sensor is fabricated by a length of 1.5 cm holey fiber which is spliced between two single mode fibers. The result shows that this sensor is highly sensitive to the curvature and strain. The curvature sensitivity of -2.557 nm/m-1 is acquired in the range of 0.181-1.264 m-1, and the strain sensitivity of -1.77 pm/μΕ is acquired in the range of 0-1569 μΕ. Furthermore, the sensor exhibits the advantages of robustness, easy fabrication, small size and simple structure. So the proposed device is cost effective and has a great potential to be applied in optical sensing systems.
