Numerical simulation of predict bubble generation diameter

摘要:Bubble formation size at an orifice immerged in liquid is investigated by experimental and numerical simulation assuming a constant gas flow rate. A water analogy experiment was conducted on the bubble formation in a polyvinyl alcohol solution. The Volume-of fluid ( VOF) method was applied to research the formation process in axisymmetric coordinates in the commercial solver Fluent. The bubble diameter is evaluated at the bubble detachment time from the fact that the bubble volume is simply given by the product of the gas flow rate and time elapsed. The predicted bubble detachment diameters are in good agreement with the experimental date. Factors affecting bubble detach diameters was studied using numerical simulation. Results show that the bubble diameter increases with orifice diameter, air flow rate, surface tension, and decreases with contact angle. The effect of last one is most important among all the factors.
