Abstract:Inert ceramic membrane reactors were used for the oxidative dehydrogenation of propane to propylene. The partially coated porous ceramic membrane was used as an air distributor to a fixed bed of V-Mg-O catalyst. In this case, oxygen partial pressure decreased and propylene selectivity increased. The catalyst was characterized by XRD, TPD, and TPR methods, and by low temperature N2 adsorption (BET method). The performances of inert membrane reactors (IMR) were compared to that of a conventional fixed-bed reactor. The IMR were shown to be more efficient than the fixed bed reactor. Propylene selectivity of 57.4% and product yield of 22.1% were obtained in the IMR.
