Abstract:Degradation of phenol by an electrochemical heterogeneous catalytic process was applied in packed bed electrolytic reactor with graphite electrode. The catalyst was characterized by SEM and the effects of pH, the applied potential and Na2SO4 on the efficiency of the electrochemical oxidation phenol process were also studied. It was found that the optimal condition was an applied potential of 25V, Na2SO4 concentration of 500 mg L-1 and a pH of 2.5 and the phenol and Chemical oxygen demand (COD) removals were 78.7% and 37.9%, respectively. A possible mechanism of phenol degradation is proposed based on the intermediate products. ?2010 IEEE.
