Abstract:Linear elastic analysis is often used in the inner loop of topology optimization procedures. In order to design stable structures that avoid buckling, nonlinear structural analysis has to be considered, i.e., analysis that incorporates the effects of geometrically large deformations. In this paper, the deformation of a structure is modeled by an updated Lagrangian formulation, and the sensitivity analysis is done with an adjoint variable method. The numerical examples show that the resultant topologies from nonlinear analysis are more stable w. r. t. Buckling collapse and snap-through than those obtained from linear analysis.
