Abstract: Biomimetic extracellular matrix-like coatings on the surface of cardiovascular stents are effective in improving the blood compatibility. Fibrous polyurethane/(carboxymethyl chitosan / chitosan)_n composite coatings were fabricated on the substrates of 316L stainless steel by coupling an electrospinning process with an electrostatic self-assembling process. The polyurethane fibrous coatings platelet adhesion tests show that there is severe platelets adhesion on the fibers below 1 μm diameter,but there is almost no platelets adhesion on the fibers above 1 μm diameter. Furthermore,the number of platelets adhesion on the polyurethane/(carboxymethyl chitosan/chitosan)_n composite coatings decreases obviously, and the composite coatings present good blood compatibility.
