Abstract:The water mass conservation and the numerical scheme well-balanced properties are two major diffi-cult problems of the numerical simulation of shallow water flow with complex topography. In this paper, an im-proved treatment approach to wet-dry front was presented. With iterative computation of water flux in control ele-ment, the outflow water volume of each control element was adjusted to preserve the water mass conservation. The water surface elevation gradient item was adjusted to preserve the numerical scheme well-balanced property. An im-proved implicit method was used to calculate the friction source terms to enable the stability of numerical scheme. The improved treatment approach was applied to solve complex bottom topography dam break problem. The numeri-cal result comparison of different numerical model shows that this method could effectively guarantee zero mass error and well-balanced property.
