Abstract:A three-stage fixed-bed electrochemical reactor (FBER) consisted of flat-sheet carbon membrane coated with TiO2 nanoparticles as anode was designed and employed for the treatment of biologically treated landfill leachate. Results showed that the electrochemical performance of flat-sheet carbon membrane had been improved after loading nano-TiO2 particles. The COD, NH4+-N and TN removal rates were obtained by three-stage FBER under the optimum operating conditions of resident time 12 min and 2.0 V were up to 82.0%, 86.5% and 76.3%, respectively. The removal rate of chroma was up to 93.4%. The energy consumption was only 4.81 kWh/kg COD (the concentration of COD = 389 mg/L in feed). Furthermore, the number of organic pollutants detected in the feed and permeate were 51 and 14, respectively. The concentration of other contaminants in effluent all can satisfy China Discharge Standard of Landfill Leachate Treatment. In sum, the FBER exhibits a great potential of application in the landfill leachate treatment without concentrated solution.
