Abstract:A mixed integer non-linear program (MINLP) model is presented for the design and operational planning of steam power system (SPS) with varying demands. The established multiperiod model includes binary variables for the choice of units for the design, as well as binary variables for the operational status of existing equipment during each period,producing a problem that cannot be effectively solved by conventional methods. In order to overcome this difficulty, an improved genetic algorithm (IGA) is introduced which is improved on many aspects and much more simple than before. By using the IGA, the established multi-period MINLP model the optimal design and operational planning results can be obtained within reasonable time and significant cost can be saved compared with the conventional software.
