Abstract:A three-dimensional heat transfer model for the laser transformation hardening process of cylindrical bodies was set up. Based on this model, the three-dimensional temperature fields of cylindrical bodies during the laser transformation hardening process were calculated by using the finite difference method. The width and the depth of the laser transformation hardening zone of steel 42CrMo cylindrical bodies were also predicted. The laser transformation hardening experiment of steel 42CrMo cylindrical bodies was carried out. The width and depth of the laser transformation hardening zone were measured. The calculated width and depth of the laser transformation hardening zone are in a good agreement with the experimental results.
