Abstract:The design optimization of transient heat transfer and coupled thermal stress in structures is studied in the paper. The coupled response analysis and sensitivity analysis for transient heat transfer and thermal stress has been implemented with the finite element method for general structures. The sensitivity analysis method and its accuracy are investigated for the problems of transient heat transfer and coupled thermal stress. It is shown that the derivatives of the temperature field play an important coupling role in the multidisciplinary optimization of thermal structures. The design model is proposed to optimize both the temperature field distribution and structural thermal stress and thermal deformation. The examples show the application effectiveness of the proposed approaches and the efficiency of shape optimization in thermal structure design.
