Abstract:Sequentially coupled thermo-mechanical model based on finite element method is used for simulation of friction stir welding. The relationship between the rotational speed and the heat input power is investigated. By comparison to experimental data in published literatures, the model is validated. Results indicate that the longitudinal bending curvature is increased with the decrease in the weld width. But longitudinal bending curvature is hardly changed with the variations in the weld length. A formula is established for the prediction of the maximum residual distortion.
