Abstract:A nano-HZSM-5 zeolite was modified (20-50 nm, SiO2Al2O3 ratio 25:1) and the para-selectivity of the resulting catalysts in the alkylation of ethylbenzene with ethylene was studied. It was shown that the para-selectivity of the nano-HZSM-5 catalyst can be elevated by modifications. The thermal/hydrothermal treatment alone only marginally increases the catalyst para-selectivity from 30 to 35%, while big increase in the para-selectivity can be observed in the combined modifications, especially in the one with chemical liquid-phase deposition SiO2 treatment. The combined modifications effectively suppress the by-product, benzene, from the side-reaction of ethylbenzene disproportionation, and they enhance the catalyst para-selectivity at little cost of the desired alkylation activity.
