Abstract:A time-domain model for radiation and diffraction problems based on 3D finite water depth transient Green function is developed by a higher order boundary element method (HOBEM). Green function and its derivations are calculated by series, asymptotic expansion and quadrature, respectively. In the present model they are approximated by two and three dimensional Chebyshev polynomials to accelerate the numerical computation. The singularity in the instantaneous term of the Green function is removed. Accuracy and efficiency of the model are demonstrated by its application to a submerged sphere and a surfacepiercing hemisphere for finite water depth. The computed wave forces and body motion responses agree well with the frequency-domain results. Copyright ? 2009 by The International Society of Offshore and Polar Engineers (ISOPE).
