Numerical simulation on hydrodynamic response of berthing ships

Abstract:A numerical model is developed for ship berthing. The ship motion equation is solved in the time domain by using the fourth-order Runge-Kutta integrating method. The cable and fender tension-tensor relation are fitted by B-spline functions and the cable and fender reaction forces are computed according to the ship position at each time step. Experiments are also carried out for validation. The computed results have a reasonable agreement with the experimental ones.
