Abstract:The equations of thermoelasticity are first rewritten in Hamiltonian form where the variables are separable in spatial coordinates. The symplectic eigensolutions satisfying the boundary conditions along the crack faces are solved analytically from the homogeneous equations. The loading and the particular integral are expanded in the eigensolutions and the coefficients are determined by the geometric boundary conditions excluding the crack. The thermal stress intensity factors are obtained and the behavior of the thermal stress intensity factors under arbitrary thermal loading is investigated.
