Abstract: In this paper, a computer-aided product colour planning system for multi-working modes product was presented according to colour-combination features of the multi-working modes product. This system can help a designer to evaluate and generate the colour-combination schemes of multi-working modes product. A synthesised evaluation method, which is an evaluation principle of the computer-aided product colour planning system, was proposed in this paper to evaluate colour-combination image for the multi-working modes product. Then a mathematical model was developed to generate optimal colour-combination schemes of multi-working modes product based on the proposed evaluation method and difference evolution (DE). DE was employed to search for colour-combination schemes which can most closely meet the required image. The application on a two-coloured hair-drier was provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the product colour planning method and system, which produce the intended result by using the proposed method.
