Abstract:Scientific Outlook on Development is the long-term development strategy ofP. R. China. How to assess the development of Chinese society and find out thefavorable and unfavorable influencing factors is essential to the implementationof Scientific Outlook on Development policy. Through selection and rationalanalysis of social indicators, this work constructs an assessment indicatorsystem consisting of five criteria and 26 indicators. Based on G1 'method andcoefficient of variation (CV) 'method and by the principle of the sum ofdeviation in largest between indicator scores, it sets up a combinationweighting assessment model and assesses Chinese social development during year2001 to 2007. The result indicates that the sustainable development tendency ofChinese society is remarkable; the living quality is the most importantinfluencing criterion and needs to be improved further in China.
