Abstract:A method that a piezoelectric ceramic sensor was also used as an actuator during the sampling intervals in the application of active vibration control was proposed. A sensing-actuating period consists of sensing timeslot, actuation timeslot and discharge timeslot. In the three timeslots, vibration measurement, vibration control and releasing the residual charge were implemented, respectively. A sequential circuit controlled the switching of the three timeslots. Technical details, such as, sequential logic design and switching circuit were discussed. Experiments proved that the switching between sensing and actuation did not affect the function of a piezoelectric sensor. In addition, the actuation capability depended on the actuation timeslot percentage of the sensing-actuating period. Based on cantilever's modal analysis, the first modal control of a cantilever beam with independent modal control and linear quadratic optimal control algorithms was implemented by using piezoelectric sensor and actuator in time-sharing fashion. The experimental results proved that the decay time of the controlled cantilever beam reduced to 20% of the uncontrolled one.
