Abstract: Two integration patterns of sensor and actuator are summarized which are structural integration and functional integration.Functional integration is self-sensing actuator(SSA),where a single element simultaneously functions as both a sensor and an actuator.The transducer based on electromahnetic or electromechanical coupling can be made self-sensing actuator if the sensing signal can be separated from the command signal to the actuator.The possibility of piezoelectric SSA is investigated.A piezoelectric SSA is implemented based on a strain rate bridge circuit and exhibits excellent performance in suppressing the vibration of a cantilever.
