Abstract:This study presents a nonlinear two-stage damage identification method for steel frame structures. The first stage consists of identifying the most probable damage area, and the second stage consists of accurately identifying the damage site and the extent of the damage. By using a mathematical simulation of a four-layer steel frame structure, the effects of the measurement site, number of modes, and noise on the precision of identification are assessed. The results demonstrate that even with incomplete measurement information, the two-stage damage identification method can effectively identify the damage sites and the damage extent in a steel frame.
