Abstract:A new procedure is proposed to simulate uniaxial compression test of rock specimen. This procedure is inspired by artificial neural element and simulates rock fragmentation process with linear model and brittle rupture criterion of Mohr-Coulomb. The combination of many simple and linear elements can simulate complex, nonlinear and strain softening phenomenon of constitutive relationship in uniaxial compression test of rock specimen. The essential reasons induced these complex phenomena lie in that the rock strength for very element is not uniform in detailed size. The essence of strain softening phenomenon of rock specimen is revealed. ? 2012 ejge.
