Abstract: Water flow through a single rough fracture with fractal surfaces is investigated by numerical simulation which solves the Navier-Stokes equations using finite element method. The rough fractures with fractal surfaces are generated by fractional Brownian motion procedure. The dependence of equivalent transmissibility of a single rough fracture on Hurst exponent and fractal dimension is presented. The investigation shows that equivalent transmissibility of a single rough fracture increases linearly with increase of Hurst exponent, or with decrease of fractal dimension. Variation of mass flow rate versus Hurst exponent is also investigated. For fractal dimension D=1.0 the fracture surfaces become smooth and parallel, and the transmissibility of fracture is equal to its maximum value. ? 2014 ejge.
