摘要：As a tool of product differentiation, industrial design plays an important role in product innovation. Based on the empirical research of mobile phone patents, the development trend of the role of industrial design in technological evolution is analyzed. The study shows that the impact of industrial design on product innovation is not unconditional, but depends on technology evolution. Until the core technology is leveled-out, industrial design dominants product innovation. The established core technology is the key factor to make the industrial design play its role. Based technology integration, industrial design effectively incorporates with core technology. Industrial design has the advantage to fulfill the demand of segmented market. It is the differential product based on industrial design which supports enterprises to obtain competitive advantage.
