Abstract:In this paper, 304 stainless steel coating was deposited on the interstitial free steel substrate by cold gas dynamic spraying. The effect of heat treatment on the microstructure and bending behaviour of the cold sprayed 304 stainless steel coating were investigated by optical microscopy, SEM and three point bend testing. The results showed that the annealing treatment improved the mechanical properties of 304 stainless steel coating, and especially optimised the bonding strength of deposited particles in the coating. The fracture behaviour of 304 stainless steel coating after annealing treatment has been changed from brittleness type to plastic type with increasing annealing temperature. The initial cracks were initiated at the surface of coating, and then extended from the surface to the combination interface between 304 stainless steel coating and substrate with increasing the load.
