Abstract: The system structure and functional principle of electrode needless magnetized plasma propulsion device,helicon plasma thruster（HPT）,with the potential applications in the power system of deep space probes and long-life satellites,were introduced.The research progress,performance characteristics and key technologies of HPT were discussed and its typical structure was summarized.According to our studies,some suggestions are presented.
