2-D microstructure characterization and reconstruction of heterogeneous materials based on combination of physical descriptor and texture synthesis

摘要:With the development of high-throughput computational materials science, material microstructure characterization and reconstruction (MCR) has gradually become an important part of the research on processing-structure-property (PSP) links. However, MCR is difficult for heterogeneous materials, which assemble the characteristics of multi-phase, multi-scale, and complex morphology. To overcome this challenge, a novel MCR method is proposed to characterize and reconstruct 2-D microstructure of heterogeneous materials in this paper. Specially, the combination of physical descriptor and texture synthesis is applied to the MCR of AlSi-PHB sealed coating, which contains AlSi matrix phase, polyester (PHB) and pores. The advantages of physical descriptor for reconstructing regular shape and 10 μm-scale pores and texture synthesis for reconstructing complex shape and 100 μm-scale PHB are combined. The phase edges of reconstructed image are identified to eliminate the overlapping pixels errors. Finally, two-point correlation and two-point clustering correlation functions are utilized to illustrate the statistical equivalence of reconstructed images and sample image. Results show that the correlation functions of reconstructed images are in high consistency with that of the sample image, which can reveal the multi-phase, multi-scale, and complex morphology in sealed coatings and provide an effective way for MCR of heterogeneous materials.
