Abstract:By using the model of undesirable outputs, in this paper, the discussion on the efficiency of regional environmental pollution abatement with consideration of centralized disposal of pollution sources in China is studied. The regional gap in efficiency, efficiency ranking, regional convergence, distribution, and changes of regional environmental pollution abatement over time are analyzed. It has been found that without considering the centralized disposal of pollution source or the efficiency promoted by centralized pollution abatement disposal, an underestimated efficiency of regional environmental pollution abatement exists in China. There is an obvious regional gap in the efficiency, efficiency rankings, and the convergence characteristics, but the distribution structure is relatively stable. By accelerating the construction of centralized pollution facilities, the auxiliary network project and auxiliary environment infrastructure projects have become policy choices to reduce the regional gap of environmental pollution abatement and to upgrade the distribution intervals of regional efficiency. However, enough attention should be paid to centralized disposal of pollution sources which have not yet constituted hazards, while China s local government strives to foster and develop the industry of centralized pollution disposal. ? 2017 Taylor & Francis Group, London.
