Abstract: This paper analyses the impact of CEO overconfidence on firm's R&D organizations. We also take scientist's free inquiry as a important factor. The results reveal that the probability CEO chooses to cooperate with the academy increases with her level overconfidence. Besides, there are other factors that influence the a CEO's decision on R&D organization, to be specific, the increase of CEO's expected ability encourages her to launch in-house research, whereas the increase of scientist's concern on free inquiry increases her interests in industry-academy cooperation.
