Abstract:Activated carbon as a well solid adsorbent has been used to remove many kinds of contaminants exist in air and water. But when the activated carbon adsorbs too much, it will lose adsorbility. Waste activated carbon will not only pollute environment but also make resource waste if not disposal properly. So according to the study of surface functional groups, total acidic, pHP(pzc), and adsorption capability of GAC influenced by discharge parameters and discharge time, the effect mechanism of DBD plasma on activated carbon was discussed in this paper. The plasma was produced by plates DBD reactor with 200 Hz high voltage AC power supply, and the granular activated carbon laid between two electrodes. The results showed input voltage and DBD treatment time affected the phenol adsorption of GAC, and the optimal input voltage and DBD treatment time for enhancing adsorbility of GAC. DBD treatment also made obvious change for GAC surface-functional groups, while the total acidity enhanced and pHP(pzc) reduced significantly. This experiment provided a foundation for the further step about removing contaminants and waste activated carbon regeneration by DBD plasma.
