Abstract:Six schemes of CFRP strengthened beams with different anchorages of U-wraps are numerically investigated using the finite element method in this paper. The effects of the six schemes of transverse anchorages on the deflections of the strengthened beams, the distributions of CFRP strains and the interfacial bond-slips between the strengthening laminate and substrate are analyzed using ANSYS. It is concluded that the stiffness of CFRP strengthened beam can be mostly improved and the premature debonding failure can be avoided by closely clamping the U-wraps within the flexural-shear region. Premature debonding can be also prevented by closely clamping of the U-wraps along whole beams, but the strain concentration caused by the lateral constraints is obvious, which inversely influences the upgrading peak load of the strengthened beam. When less consumption of the CFRP material is considered, the strengthened beam with three U-wraps in the vicinity of endpoint performs well in averaging the CFRP strain and the restraining premature debonding failure. ?
