Abstract:The high temperature characteristic of fiber Bragg grating (FBG) fabricated in Ge-doped optical fiber by UV exposure through a phase mask was experimentally studied, and the shift of FBG resonant wavelength was monitored from 30°C to 850°C. The results show that FBG has good linearity from 30°C to 690°C, but the good linearity is gradually destroyed with further rise of temperature, and FBG lose its grating characteristic at 837°C. It has good repeatability if FBG works within failure temperature. At last, the atomic elastic model is firstly applied to explain the reason why FBG loses its grating characteristic at high temperature.
