Abstract:Two new silver antimony sulfides, KAg(2)SbS(3) (1) and K(2)Ag(3)Sb(3)S(7) (2), have been synthesized solvothermally in the presence of thiophenol as a mineralizer. Compound I contains a hexagonal net formed by condensation of Ag(2)SbS(3) six-membered rings. These sheets are linked through Ag-S bonds to obtain double layers. The structure of 2 consists of infinite [Sb(2)S(4)](2-) chains and [Ag(6)Sb(2)S(10)](infinity)(8-) columns linked to form layers. The [Sb(2)S(4)](infinity)(2-) chains are generated by vertex-shared SbS(3)(3-) pyramids, while [Ag(6)Sb(2)S(10)](infinity)(8-) columns are composed of edge-shared of SbS(3) pyramid, AgS(3) triangles, and a AgS(4) tetrahedron, and contain a Ag(3)SbS(3) semicube. The optical band gaps of the two compounds are 2.1 and 2.2 eV, respectively.
