Fungal spore release for air-flow parallel to surface

摘要:Fungi as ubiquitous indoor contaminates may cause adverse health problem to occupants, which has received much attention in recent years. The release and transmit of the fungal spore on the surface of building materials are key factors to investigate the airborne spore exposure and the related adverse effect. In an environment or HVAC system, spores are often aerosolized by parallel air-flow. Concerning such common situation, the parallel air-flow fungal spore source strength tester (PAFST) was developed and the release number of the Pencillium citrinum, Penicillium expansum, Aspergillus niger, Cladosporium Spp, etc. was tested under several typical indoor and air-conditioning velocities. It was found that the release number of Pencillium citrinum is 1 spores/cm(2) at V=0.3 m/s and 1407 spores/cm(2) at V=9.4 m/s. When the velocity reaches 4.7m/s, the Cladosporium Spp starts to release the spore with the number of 6 spores/cm(2). The spore number released by parallel air-flow is different from that by jet flow. The developed PAFST set-up can test the release of the fungal spore effectively.The fungal spore release strength relates to both surface air velocity and the flow type through the surface.
