Sufficient and Necessary Stable Condition for Average Consensus of Discrete-time Multi-agent Systems

Abstract:This paper studies the average consensus problem for a discrete-time multi-agent system with first-order dynamics, we provide the sufficient and necessary stable condition that the step-size needs to satisfy for the multi-agent systems with an iterative method, and the cause of oscillation is investigated with use of matrix diagonal and eigenvalue analysis method. Some conclusions about the largest eigenvalue of Laplacian matrix and graph theory is also presented as an auxiliary aspect to the analysis of the average consensus problem. Numerical simulations are provided to illustrate the performance the presented theory.
