Abstract:The main objective of this paper is to investigate the composite effect of steel rebars and macro steel fibers on the flexural resistance of full-scale self-consolidating concrete beams. An experimental program was carried out on six full-scale beams of distinct longitudinal reinforcement ratio (rho(s)) and various fiber contents, subjected to four point loads. From the relationship between force and midspan deflection, the contribution of steel fibers for the beam load carrying capacity at ultimate limit states was assessed. A significant positive synergistic effect on the ultimate load and controlling of deflection can be achieved by the combination of steel fibers and steel rebars. The 14.0 kg/m(3) of longitudinal reinforcements can be partially replaced by 50 kg/m(3) steel fibers with the load carrying capacity of the beam still increased.
